Squid Game Seasons 2 & 3: Filming Complete, Season 2 Premieres Late 2024

Summary: Netflix's global hit "Squid Game" has completed filming for both seasons 2 and 3 simultaneously, raising anticipation among fans worldwide. Season 2 is set to be released in the latter half of 2024.

Squid Game Seasons 2

The much-anticipated "Squid Game" has fans on the edge of their seats with the news that filming for both seasons 2 and 3 has been completed simultaneously. This ambitious move by Netflix has stirred excitement globally, as the series' return promises even more thrilling twists and turns.

Filming Wrapped Up

According to sources on June 14th, the cast and crew of the hit series wrapped up an extensive 11-month filming schedule without major incidents. Starting with the recruitment of extras in February last year, the official filming for season 2 kicked off in July. To celebrate the end of filming, the team enjoyed a two-day wrap party in Gapyeong, indulging in water sports and a barbecue.

Anticipation for Season 2

The interest in "Squid Game" season 2 has been immense from the start. The first season, released on September 17, 2021, created a global phenomenon and generated an estimated $900 million in revenue. It made history at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards in September 2022, where director Hwang Dong-hyuk won Outstanding Directing, and lead actor Lee Jung-jae won Outstanding Lead Actor, marking the first time non-English language content achieved such honors.

Simultaneous Production of Seasons 2 and 3

With both seasons filmed, "Squid Game" will release them sequentially. Despite initial denials from Netflix about the simultaneous production, insiders confirmed the continuous filming approach, comparing it to creating a long narrative split into two seasons. Season 2 will feature six episodes, with season 3 expected to have a similar count.

Netflix's Statement

Netflix stated they are in the final stages of preparing season 2 for release while remaining tight-lipped about season 3 details. Season 2 will see the return of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who forgoes a flight to the U.S. to re-enter the deadly games. The mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) will reveal his face, and new characters with compelling backstories will join the cast. Notably, actors like Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young are among the new additions.

Controversial Casting Choice

One casting choice that sparked controversy is T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyun), who faced backlash due to past drug charges, raising questions about the ethics of his casting. "Squid Game" season 2 is set to premiere in the latter half of 2024, promising to deliver the high-stakes drama and intense action fans have been eagerly awaiting.
